The number of blogs has nearly doubled since March, with a new blog now being created every second, according to Technorati’s State of the Blogosphere report. Technorati was tracking some 14.2 Million blogs and 1.3 billion links at the end of July, whereas in March it was tracking 7.8 million blogs. Technorati says about 80,000 new weblogs are being created every day - roughly one every second.
More than half (55 percent) of all blogs are considered active, with a posting in the last three months, and 13 percent (1.8 million blogs), update at least weekly. The report identified significant growth in the U.S., Japan, Korea, China, France, and Brazil.
Technorati said the fastest-growing blogging services are MSN Spaces, Blogger, LiveJournal, and AOL Journals, along with several international-hosted services. The use of software such as Word Press and Moveable Type to set up blogs also continued to grow significantly.

Gotta make sure spam blogs dont get counted, or get counted seperately. And what exactly consitutes a spam blog anyway? Congrats on starting this rad network, it seems a great example of aggregated high-quality content.
oops, I just noticed that Technoratis report does make an effort to eliminate spam blogs in that count.
Very informative - I agree with the point describe above - but more thought is required
